Too Much Hype for Ubuntu?

Ubuntu reported on its own website that it win 2006 World Class Award from PC World. It is ranked 27 out of 100 and the only Linux distribution. While actually most Linux distribution does not differ from each other, Ubuntu is widely believed not the fastest nor easiest Linux distribution. I have to admit that Ubuntu did greatly promoted Linux, but isn’t it a little bit overhyped?

Linux has a lot of problems at the moment. For example, Mandriva(formerly Mandrake) is easy to use, but release cycle is now a whole year and bugs in the system has turned away many people. Fedora Core seems to be actually dead because Redhat is not interested in desktop. SUSE is better and better, but still not so easy to use compared to Mandriva and have its problems, for example, openSUSE has some problems in Chinese support.

So for Ubuntu, I don’t see any reason for it to be placed 27th and the only Linux distribution in there. Note that it seems there is not even a single Linux application in the list! How could a distribution be 27th while no program in the OS is in the list?
