Officially Say Bye to Skype

Although my last few cents of SkypeOut credit expired a while ago, I still have to officially announce my “Bye” to Skype.

When eBay acquired Skype, people knew bad things are gonna happen. And it did. Pricing is not competitive, sometimes 2-3 times more expensive than competitors; connection fee for international call is added and at a surprisingly high $0.039 per call; seemly closed API so no third party support for its IM; price too expensive; did I mention it is expensive?

Linux users have also been complaining about the lack of development for Linux versions. Well, Mac version is usually quite lagging behind Windows version too. Until the most recent 2.7 beta, Skype finally integrate with Address Book. And the integration is pretty bad – it automatically import all your Address Book contacts and you cannot delete them!

eBay is a nightmare company. They charge you for listing and charge you for final sale cut and then its PayPal charge you again. Triple charge, just like Skype is 2 times more expensive.

Good bye Skype! I would likely continue to use the PC-PC function, but you ain’t get a penny from me.
